Hello, my name is Karina Soriano. I am from New Mexico and have lived in Tucson since starting at The University of Arizona. I am a Junior studying Political Science with minors in Spanish and Mexican American Studies. I grew up in a city that was 99% Hispanic and this has led me to be driven to support my community and fellow students. In 2017, I was awarded the Daniels Fund Scholarship based on my character, leadership, and service in New Mexico. I am a Peer Coach with Student Engagement and Career Development at our University. I guide students in preparing for their future in regards to major and career choices. I work closely with students in 1:1 appointments to help support career development in areas including resume/cover letter, practicing for interviews, and help with job search and applications. I also just accepted a position with Tucson's International Rescue Committee as an Employment and Economic Empowerment Intern. I will be working with refugees in 1:1 appointments to assist them in obtaining their first job in the United States by facilitating job readiness trainings, assisting with job searches, and preparing refugee clients for job interviews. I am very excited to be working directly with the Hispanic Serving Initiatives team and the Guerrero Student Center to better serve Latinx students in all areas of career development.
