Cathy Duarte Gastélum, a candidate in the Mexican American Studies Doctoral Program at the University of Arizona with a minor in Educational Leadership, and an Adjunct Professor at Pima Community College, seeks opportunities to motivate Latino students to seek higher education.

Believing in creating a pipeline and access to higher education fr underrepresented students, Cathy Duarte Gastélum brought a group of students from Ajo High School to visit the University of Arizona. The students met with faculty members from the Mexican American Studies Department and staff from 1st Cats. As a first generation college students and graduate from Tucson's Pueblo High School, representation is important for Cathy, and therefore she demonstrates her passion for the Latinx cultural identity and education by providing opportunities for students early on.
