Bali

CIELO BALI

DESCRIPTION

Explore Bali’s people, history, and culture through service learning and other cultural activities. This program gives students a balanced perspective of life on the island of Bali. Students will be in non-traditional environments or “living classrooms” and have the opportunity to snorkel over a coral restoration site, speak with members of the Balinese royal family, and visit organizations that bring simple technologies to communities in need.

Sample activities and excursions include venturing out into Ubud village for a team scavenger hunt and learning more about Balinese culture through interacting with the local community; joining a fun introductory workshop in a village banjar, or community center (the banjar is where villagers prepare offerings and foods for ceremonies, meet and discuss village affairs, practice music and dance, and just hang out and chat with each other); and a visit to Tirta Empul holy spring temple, considered a sacred site to purify the soul and mind by the Balinese people.
